Fall closet audits are in full swing, and I am always surprised that, after I assess what is missing from my clients’ closets, the answer is always the same: the basics!
Even closets full of clothes are lacking key pieces that can tie a wardrobe together. It is easy to get wrapped up in current trends, which are of course tons of fun! But if you don’t have good bones supporting your wardrobe, you will end up stressed when a last-minute occasion pops up that you don’t have time to shop for. The problem with this is that, whenever you need something immediately, you will inevitably end up settling for an item that you are not going to love long-term. This universal dilemma will have to be its own blog post someday soon, but the moral is this: have a plan when you are shopping. Prepare in advance and purchase well-researched staples so that you can spare yourself the stress of getting dressed in a closet full of “trendy” clothes that are no longer fashionable!
Here is my advice: If you build a wardrobe around quality, classic staples, then you will always have the options you need at your fingertips to get dressed for pretty much any occasion. I hope you find this helpful! I would love to know your thoughts, your questions, or your favorite item pictured. Have a great day!

A crisp, white button-down blouse is a versatile wardrobe staple! It looks great as a stand-alone top and is also perfect for layering.

I love Theory, and I don't think you can ever go wrong choosing any of their classic black pants!

10. An Envelope Clutch
This is a great finishing touch to an outfit. It’s a chic detail that can pull an entire look together and make all the difference! Envelope clutches are great for events where you really only need to carry the essentials: phone, lipstick, credit cards/cash, and a car key!
